Bennett, Trudeau, Kennedy, Bush…sometimes politics is in your blood.
Gordon Wilson is credited with bringing the Liberals to prominence in B.C., after leading the party to a surprise position as Official Opposition in the 1991 election.
Now, his son is hoping to help the party take a seat from the NDP in the same seat his father held for a decade.
Mathew Wilson says, of course, his dad was an influence, but the calling to serve community came from many directions.
“My mom, locally, also served on [the] school district. My stepmom, Judi Tyabji, was an MLA in Kelowna. So you watch people who have done so much for the province and the community, and it really inspires you.”
The family legacy also includes controversy, which gives dad Gordon plenty of experience to give advice.
What was it? Run if you want to, in a riding you care about, for a party you believe in.

The NDP’s Nicholas Simons has held Powell-River Sunshine Coast since 2005.
Gordon Wilson represented it from 1991 as a Liberal, Progressive Democrat, and eventually a New Democrat, before losing to the Liberals in the 2001 election.
