Oak Bay Police are still looking for details on a violent attack reportedly involving a machete that occurred Tuesday morning.
Sgt. Rob Smith with Oak Bay Police says they’re left with many unanswered questions about what exactly happened.
“We have no idea for what any motivation for the attack being in that house could be at this moment.”
What they do know is that it happened inside a home on a popular waterfront walking path.
It left a 45-year-old woman recovering from significant injuries and requiring surgery.
Smith says so far the victim has only been able to say she didn’t know her attacker.
“We’re still waiting for an opportunity to interview the victim … we haven’t properly or fully interviewed her at all.”
Smith says investigators are hoping someone in the area around breakfast-time will call police – even if they think what they saw is insignificant.
“We’re looking for people that may have information to report that may or may not think it’s important enough to call us. Somebody who may have seen a vehicle or a person or anything like that.”
To Smith, the strangest part is for an attack that happened in broad daylight to have so few witnesses.
“This strikes me as something that’s different … it’s unusual in the grander scheme and certainly incredibly unusual for Oak Bay.”
Officers still haven’t located what they describe as an edged weapon, which they suspect was used by the assailant.
