A massive fire has completely destroyed a vacant home in Abbotsford.
Assistant Abbotsford Fire Chief Craig Bird says crews were called to the to the structure in a quarry on Ross Road south of Simpson Road just before 10 a.m. Sunday.
“Crews arrived, they quickly figured out that there was nobody living in the house, there was no power, hydro, gas, and or water hookup to the house and the house was fully involved.”
He says the fire was so intense 10 trucks were called to fight it.
“From an operational standpoint, it was a defensive fire, nobody went in the structure, and shortly after crews arrived on scene, the house actually collapsed in on itself.”
Bird says the cause of the fire will remain a mystery because the damage is too extensive.
“So we will probably not be able to figure out what the cause of the fire is just due to the fact of the extent of the damage.”
He says nobody was hurt.
