The Surrey RCMP has gone on the record several times saying it does not condone or support vigilantism, especially in the case of Surrey Creep Catchers, a group of pedophile hunters.
But during a sting Monday night, questions surfaced surrounding the RCMP’s involvement.
Surrey RCMP Corporal Scotty Schumann says Mounties were in contact with Surrey Creep Catchers President Ryan Laforge prior to the sting at a Tim Horton’s in Surrey.
However, he says no specifics were discussed, and any confrontation was discouraged by the Surrey RCMP.
But Surrey Creep Catchers’ decoy Nicole Hunter tells a different story.
Hunter told CKNW, Laforge spoke with someone from the Surrey RCMP Sex Crimes Unit about the particular sting involving a decoy mother and pretend 6-year-old child.
Hunter claims Mounties told Laforge to call Police before the alleged pedophile arrived, to detain him and even pat the person down for weapons.
