Airport officials have resolved a problem with a baggage system at YVR, but not before long lines, delays, and massive headaches for travellers.
YVR first reported the issue around 11 a.m. Saturday morning, affecting passengers for flights departing to the U.S.
Vice President of Operations Steve Hankinson says there was a baggage system failure this morning around 4:30 at the drop-off luggage area.
“The system’s complex with a number of different systems that control the flow of bags and somewhere in that process, something broke, and the investigation is underway to understand why and to make sure we never have this kind of thing happen again.”

Hankinson says he doesn’t have an exact tally of the number of people that were affected but confirmed the passengers impacted were all travelling to the U.S.
“Few customers missed their flights and we’re working closely with the airlines to accommodate those customers who missed flights.”
However, the problem led to crowds in the terminal and prompted many travellers to take to social media in displeasure.
Hankinson says the problem had been resolved internally this morning at around 9 a.m., but the backlog line ups didn’t clear until around 11:30 a.m.
