B.C.’s Auditor General has no intention to audit the government’s pre-election advertising spending but is meeting this week with the Minister responsible for that spending.
Carol Bellringer says she has not initiated the discussion over an increase in spending heading into the election.
“Up to now, any of the conversation that’s been going on recently around it has been taking place around the media and I haven’t actually had a meeting with him, so I am going to sit down and go through what’s going on.”
The issue of bumping up government advertising before the election has been in the news this week.
Bellringer says since an audit into public service versus political ads back in 2014, changes have been made to improve the distinction.
