An evacuation alert has been issued for residents of Johnsons Landing in Central Kootenay.
A report issued Monday by The Regional District of Central Kootenay says the nearby Gar Creek is reportedly “running muddy and materials on the slope appear to be shifting.”
RDCK emergency management officials are en-route to assess the situation, while flaggers are being sent to direct traffic in the area.
The RDCK says it is “taking this precaution to ensure residents’ safety.”
A reception centre has been set up at the Argenta Community Hall, where Emergency Social Services personnel will be handing out food and water for residents who have left their homes.
Residents of Johnsons Landing were forced to evacuate back in 2012 when a previous landslide resulted in the deaths of four people.
That evacuation order remained for more than two years, finally being lifted in July of 2014.
