On the heels of the B.C. Teachers’ Federation and Ministry of Education ratifying a deal over class size and composition, the BCTF has launched an ad campaign targeting the provincial election.
In a statement, the BCTF says the video is the first part of their campaign leading to the election and the period when school district budgets will be set for the coming year.
President Glen Hansman says the video is to reflect what teachers have been through the last 15 years, and students who missed out on services they should have had.
He says the deal reached with the province is only one step forward.
“We still have 15 years of underfunding of the system that’s gonna have to be addressed too, and so, we are all gonna be looking very keenly at what parties are saying on their platforms and what the various folk running for office in May are gonna be committing to for public education.”
“We’ve had a whole generation of students who’ve gone without frontline services that they shouldn’t have, that they should have had all along, and we need to be asking ourselves why that happened and how can we avoid having a situation like that happen again in the future.”
The ad campaign will be hitting T.V. airwaves on Monday.
