Four teenage girls who got lost on a hike near Kennedy Falls Thursday afternoon have been located safe and sound.
North Shore Rescue team leader Mike Danks says once they were found, the first course of action was to make sure that they girls were warm enough.
“I think what happens is people don’t expect to see snow up there and that trail is in the snow line as you get a little bit further along, and it’s really common for people to lose the trail once they hit the snow.”
Danks says the girls were able to call for help from a cell phone and made the right move by staying put until rescuers arrived.
Danks says the search operation began around 2 p.m. when they got a call about the 16- and 17-year-olds who were lost in the area west of Lynn Creek.
NSR says they had been on a hike to the popular falls north of Lynn Headwaters Park.
Search Manager Don Jardine says the trail is wet and covered in snow, but that the girls were prepared for the conditions.
