Worried foster parents are speaking out after a child taken from their care and given back to his First Nations birth mother was left home alone.
“More crushing than anybody will ever know. When you see a child, that all he knows is the house that he was brought up in for almost nine years, being taken away.”
Speaking to Global BC reporter Rumina Daya, the foster dad, who is going by “John” to protect the child’s identity, says he received an e-mail from the nine-year-old saying, ‘help.’
“And when I tried to contact back, there was no answer. I was forced at that particular time to call 9-1-1. He had in his message said ‘I’m home alone.’ And he’s underage. That should never happen.”
John says he was promised he would be able to speak to the boy twice a week, but says communication has been cut off.
The Ministry of Children and Family Development says in cases where foster parents feel they’re not being listened to, there is protocol they can go through and further information is available for them.
