The B.C. SPCA has made another big animal seizure, this time from a property in Cheslatta, south of Burns Lake.
SPCA constables seized 13 adult dogs, seven puppies, and seven horses.
Most of the dogs were Australian Shepherd and mixed breeds, including six puppies under two days old.
Constable Dale Bakken says the owner doesn’t live on the property.
He says many of the 27 animals many were underweight, some were showing signs of dehydration, the dogs were tethered outside and the horses, including pregnant mares and underweight yearlings, had no shelter, no water, and limited access to food.
He says they were eating snow for hydration.
Bakken says the seizure was complicated by the remote location south of Francois Lake, and required a ferry ride to transport the animals.
It was snowing and minus 15 degrees at the time.
All of the animals are now recovering.
