A Tuesday night carjacking ended when a taxi burst into flames on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
Vancouver Police say it began at 7:15 PM when a Black Top Cab was stopped at West Hastings and Carrall and a man jumped in, forcing the driver from the van.
The cabbie was hit several times but suffered only minor injuries, and the thief sped off.
Minutes later, police received a call about a taxi and another vehicle colliding at Clark Drive and Venables Street, and when officers arrived they found the taxi in flames and a citizen holding a man on the ground.
Officers determined the man being held had exited the taxi and attempted to carjack a vehicle that was stopped at a red light.
The driver of that vehicle, a 40-year-old woman from North Vancouver, was not injured but was extremely shaken up by the ordeal.
Charges are pending against a 34-year-old Burnaby resident.
