Abbotsford Police hope a guilty conscience will be enough incentive for a thief to return a silver pendant stolen from a vehicle over the weekend.
Constable Ian MacDonald says the theft has been devastating to the woman whose car was broken into because it contained her grandfather’s ashes.
“This is something that has given her strength, and to be without it is irreplaceable to her.”
MacDonald says the incident happened Sunday afternoon in the 33300 block of George Ferguson Way.
“Our belief is that the suspect broke into the vehicle, was looking for anything of value, saw something shiny and silver, and took it.”
He says the silver chain and pendant have very little monetary value.
“It’s going to have negligible value to the thief. It certainly wouldn’t have much resale value if they were going to try to hawk it somewhere. The only value is to the victim and her family.”
If a guilty conscience does happen to weigh on the person who took the pendant’s mind, MacDonald says it can be returned to the drop box at the front of the Abbotsford Police Department.
