Sophie Gregoire Trudeau is facing some backlash after posting on Facebook and Instagram her plan to “celebrate the boys and men in our lives” this International Women’s Day.
The post invites women to take a picture holding hands with their “male ally” and to share it on social media using the hashtag “#TomorrowInHand.”
In the post she’s holding hands with her husband, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
She ends the post by writing, “Together, we can create a movement that inspires more men to join the fight to build a better tomorrow with equal rights & opportunities for everyone… because #EqualityMatters.”
But people were quick to react to her post, questioning the idea of celebrating men during International Women’s Day.
Many writing on Facebook the focus should be on women and their celebration.
“I think I’ll spend International Women’s Day focused on the women who encouraged me to be who I am instead,” wrote one person.
“You are missing the mark here. We all appreciate the wonderful men in our world, but International Women’s Day is about celebrating the wonderful WOMEN in our lives,” wrote another.
Some also took it to Twitter to comment on her post:

I don't want to be disappointed by Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau but… I am not going to spend #IWD thanking men.
