A coordinated response is underway for chemicals illegally dumped into a Surrey pond from a clandestine drug lab.
The cost to clean up the mess could top $40,000.
Surrey’s environment manager Stephen Godwin says up to 80 litres of chemicals were dumped into the Newton pond at 70th Avenue and 138th Street.
“It’s within a park but the pond is fenced off people use the park for walking and esthetic values to look across the pond but isn’t any active recreation in the pond itself.”
Godwin says that means there’s no threat to human health and as far as he knows, no wildlife’s been impacted.
