The City of Abbotsford is suing a former police board employee claiming she took nearly 200 thousand dollars while managing the police department’s finances.
False petty cash vouchers, under-reported payments, and entries logged to look like a part of investigations: All tactics the city alleges Shelley Dallas Mickens used over 17 years managing the Abbotsford Police’s Budget Branch, taking cash it claims she used to buy a piece of property.
APD constable Ian MacDonald says the city noticed the discrepancies in December.
“We are talking about at the end of the day taxpayers money, and we have an obligation to do what we can to make sure it’s properly accounted for, and at this stage, we don’t believe it has been.”
MacDonald says the RCMP are also now running a separate, criminal investigation into the missing money.
Mickens has not been criminally charged and none of the claims have been proven in court.
