Hundreds of people are expected to gather outside of Trump Tower in downtown Vancouver on Tuesday, Feb. 28 for the hotel’s grand opening on Georgia St.
The U.S. President’s sons won’t exactly be seeing a warm west coast welcome from Occupy Vancouver.
One of the organizers of the rally, called “The Trump Welcome Party,” Matthew Kagis, says when he heard about Eric and Donald Trump Jr.’s arrival, he wanted to leave a message on their doorstep.
“Letting Trump’s sons know that their brand of racism, sexism, xenophobia isn’t welcome here in Vancouver… They’re here in town, and they’re opening Trump Tower which has been, you know, very controversial ever since Trump’s statements in the media have come out. The City of Vancouver has said they don’t like it, various groups have said that they are opposed to Trump’s message.”
Kagis says 500 people have already RSVP’d on Facebook to join the peaceful protest.
“I think you’re going to see all age ranges, everything from your young hippie activists to middle-aged and older people who just feel the same way, that they don’t like the politics of division and hatred.”
He says the event will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with speakers and DJs starting at 3 p.m.
