Tourism Vancouver says 2016 was a record-setter for the region, with more than 10-million overnight visits by tourists.
It’s the third record-breaking year in a row.
It credits several factors – marketing initiatives in 11 key countries worldwide, the inaugural World Rugby Sevens match at B.C. Place Stadium, strong convention, cruise, and festival seasons, and strategic partnerships with other organizations like the Vancouver Airport Authority and the Vancouver Convention Centre.
It also says external factors helped, including a Canadian exchange rate that was favourable to international travellers and the Federal government lifting visa requirements for Mexico in late 2016.
