Advocates for affordable childcare are claiming the B.C. budget isn’t helping young families.
$10aDay Childcare spokesperson Sharon Gregson says the BC Liberals are willfully ignoring the childcare crisis in the province.
“It’s absolutely shocking. They’re being negligent. They’re not recognizing that families with young children are in crisis. They’re not recognizing family lack of affordability.”
The budget has put aside $20-million, including 2,000 spaces for childcare, but Gregson says most families in the province can’t afford the bill for those spaces.
“The 2,000 spaces they’re committing to don’t even keep up with the birth rate in British Columbia,” she says.
NDP leader John Horgan has incorporated 10 dollar-a-day childcare in his election platform.
