Another step forward in supervised consumption sites for Surrey.
Fraser Health has submitted the last of their applications to Health Canada to set up two proposed locations in the city.
Those sites would be integrated into existing health services at the Quibble Creek Sobering and Assessment Centre and at the Lookout Emergency Aid Society.
Fraser Health says the locations were chosen after consultations with stakeholders, including the City of Surrey and Surrey School district, along with the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association and Whalley Community Association.
The health authority says it chose the consumption sites after analysis revealed Surrey had the highest overdose death rate anywhere in the health authority.
There were 108 overdose deaths in the city last year.
