The leader of B.C.’s Green Party is introducing two bills in the B.C. legislature on Thursday.
MLA Andrew Weaver and his party are asking for increased farmland protection and for the province to include ridesharing as a transportation option.
Richmond city council has recently made moves to tamp down on mega-mansions being built on farm land.
One of Weaver’s bills looks to go a step farther, asking the government to shield farm land from real estate speculation by amending property law.
It also cites other provinces’ work in restricting foreign purchases.
The second bill being put forward asks the government to embrace ride sharing.
It suggests consultation with municipalities, taxi associations, and taxpayers about how to make ridesharing part of daily life.
