The final tally is in, and British Columbians dug deep once again for the 51st annual Variety Show of Hearts Telethon.
All in all, generous donors came up with more than $5-million to help B.C. kids in need.
“BC you have stepped up once again,” said Global BC anchor Sophie Lui upon announcing the total.
“I want to thank all the kids who helped us tell their stories to get you motivated to call in and give, and it really does make a huge difference,” added Global BC anchor Chris Gailus.
The one-day telethon is packed with musical guests, entertainers and stories from kids around B.C. who are being helped by Variety each year.
Organizer Shirley Stocker says a small contribution can go a long way.
“In Vancouver alone 190 children and 18 different organizations were helped this past year,” she says.
Performers this year included Dan Mangan, The Washboard Union, Dallas Smith, Odds and Angela Kelman.
