The Port Mann Bridge was closed to all traffic Thursday morning to clear ice from the bridge cables.
Around 11 a.m. crews began to re-open the bridge, which was closed for about an hour.
The temporary traffic stop was put in place on both the north and south ends of the bridge so crews could clear ice from the cables.
“We’re making sure we do this out of safety, an abundance of caution, we just want to make sure we can get this ice off the cables and not have any impact on motorists,” said Spokesperson Greg Johnston.
He says there will be regular inspections of the bridge cables throughout the day.
“We’re asking drivers watch for traffic control crews out there, there will be trucks, signage, please don’t try and pass the traffic vehicles and watch for crews on the highway.”
The stops were at the Cape Horn interchange and near the 160th Street exit.
