Vancouver Police are issuing a public warning following two apparently random attacks in Stanley Park.
In one violent and random attack on November 16th, which happened in the north parking lot of Brockton Oval in Stanley Park, an 82-year-old man was found alone in his car suffering from serious injuries. That victim is still in hospital.
Eleven weeks after that incident, a 61-year-old man was walking by himself on the seawall in Stanley Park when he was attacked and killed.
Police also say that attack appears to be random.
The person-of-interest that was identified and questioned on the night of the homicide has been released.
VPD spokesperson Constable Jason Doucette says it isn’t clear whether the cases are linked.
“We don’t have enough information at this point to say that they’re not related. We don’t have enough information to say that there is one person responsible or if they’re completely separate.”
They are warning the public to be alert in Stanley Park at night and to use extra caution.
