In light of the mosque shooting in Quebec on Sunday, Sergeant Alana Dunlop with Surrey RCMP says Mounties are increasing patrols around several mosques around the city.
“We will have continued and increased presence in various locations. We’re also asking for continued vigilance and if anyone sees anything suspicious to contact police.”
Dunlop can’t say how long extra measures will last.
“I cannot elaborate at all on what that means to do with security. However we will continue to have a presence at various locations.”
Earlier this week the BC Muslim Association called on local government and RCMP to increase security across the Lower Mainland especially in Surrey, Richmond, and Vancouver.
On Monday, Vancouver Police Chief Adam Palmer addressed a vigil at a Vancouver mosque saying investigators were not aware of any threats, but saying they’d work with the community to ensure it feels safe.
