A Nanaimo man, now safe in the hospital, says he’s left feeling thankful after an adventure in the woods turned into three days lost in the wilderness.
Twenty-year-old Spencer Hunt says his carefree approach to life has been tempered by this ordeal.
“Plan things ahead, plan your environment, what are you going to do,” he says.
Hunt started a hike of Ammonite Falls Saturday with eight others but was separated from the group.
Nonetheless, he continued on walking over three mountains and spending a night in a cave before being rescued.
He says the mid-way point heading into Sunday night was the scariest.
“I seen a helicopter on my second day and I was shouting at it and it didn’t hear me and I kind of lost hope for that.”
Rescuers finally spotted Hunt from the helicopter Monday – sending in a team to get him to safety.
