UBC President Dr. Santa Ono says there are a number of UBC students, faculty, and staff who have been affected by President Trump’s travel ban.
That’s why Ono says a task force with an initial budget of $250,000 is being created to figure out what assistance the university will be able to offer.
Ono says in a statement that UBC will work with the provincial and federal governments to respond to the developing situation, and strongly affirms their will to help students, faculty, and staff affected.
He adds UBC’s academic strength depends on the freedom of those people to travel abroad and to restrict that movement based on a person’s nationality or birthplace goes against university values.
