The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has identified a man who died from a shooting in Surrey last night.
36-year-old Hershan “Shawn” Singh Bains of Maple Ridge was killed in what’s believed to be a targeted killing just after 8 p.m. on Sinclair Crescent near 76th Avenue.
Bains was charged with second-degree murder in the 2009 slaying of Maple Ridge man Steve Nagra, who turned up the Ridge Meadows hospital with gunshot wounds and died the next day.
Those charges were stayed in 2012.
Police at the time said they’d dealt with him before for connections to organized crime.
IHIT says it’s unknown if Bains’ death is linked to other recent shootings, including the one which killed 22-year-old Karanpartap Waraich on Monday.
That fatal shooting saw Waraich’s car crash into a sign outside of a Whalley McDonald’s.
