One Delta school was on lockdown earlier today after a student posted a picture of himself holding a BB gun and wrote a threatening message.
Sharlene Brooks with Delta police says the picture was supposed to be a joke within a close circle of friends but it got shared widely and police were alerted.
“A grade nine student posted on Instagram a picture of himself holding what appeared to be a gun with a threatening caption on the photo. It was intended to stay within a small social group, however, it went beyond that and got shared widely.”
She says the lockdown at Burnsview Secondary lasted about 40 minutes and adds there was no threat to students.
Brooks says the student has been dealt with by police and understands the gravity of the situation.

She says she doesn’t believe they will be pursuing any charges but says she’s certain the student will be dealt with by the school.
Delta’s school district says Burnsview was under ‘code yellow.’
Initial reports said two schools had been under lockdown but Brooks says only Burnsview was involved.
