The mayor of Maple Ridge says parking at the city’s hospital needs to be reviewed by Fraser Health.
“The costs are making people make decisions to not go and visit loved ones because it’s so expensive for people on fixed incomes. We need to find a way to bring that down.”
Nicole Read adds seniors regularly visit the hospital for appointments and the price is painful for people on fixed incomes.
Read says it costs $8.25 per day to park at the hospital, and it’s a financial burden on a segment of their population.
“One of the challenges that especially our seniors have, who use the hospital a lot for services – you know, they go in for appointments – is this worry that they have when they pay for parking, they can’t anticipate how long they’re going to be and that they’re going to come out and get a ticket.”
Fraser Health says they’ve received word from only two people who are upset with parking at Ridge Meadows Hospital.
Read was a guest on CKNW’s Steele and Drex show.
