Homicide investigators have identified the victim in a fatal targeted shooting outside a Surrey McDonald’s last night.
IHIT says the dead man is 22-year-0ld Karanpartap Singh Waraich, and say he is known to police.
Court records show Waraich had been facing charges of assault and uttering threats.
Police were called to the fast food restaurant at 129th Street and 96th Avenue just after 9 p.m. last night, where they found a man in a Jeep that had crashed into the Golden Arches sign.
His gunshot wounds were fatal.
Former B.C. Lion Arland Bruce III lives just across the street from where the attack happened, and called 9-1-1 after running to help.
“I heard three gunshots and then I see the car running into the McDonald’s sign out my window, it was pretty disturbing for me,” he said.
“It looked like he was turning left, after he was shot the car just slowly somehow just ran into the curb, into the sign. So it was, it looked like someone probably pulled up beside him and took off.”
Bruce, who has two children, told Global News he’s never seen anything like it in the neighbourhood, and described the incident as “scary.”
