A Mountie who fatally hit a five-year-old boy in his truck at a marked crosswalk in Penticton has received his punishment – a fine.
RCMP Constable Ace Jimmy Stewart pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention when he struck and killed Jamie McIntosh in September 2015.
The Independent Investigation Office found Stewart may have committed an offence and submitted a report to crown counsel months later, he was charged that September, a year after the collision.
Jamie had reportedly been pushing his bike through the crosswalk with his brother and father when he was killed.
Stewart was fined $1,500, and a $225 victim surcharge.
He could have received a maximum fine of $2,000 and six months in jail.
