It’s still a day until Donald Trump is sworn in as 45th President of the United States, but the wrapping has already come off on a massive sign bearing his name at a Vancouver hotel.
Crews are in the midst of putting the final touches on the six-foot mirrored letters at the Trump International Hotel and Tower on Georgia street.
Tucker T., one of the workers on site, says the reception hasn’t been all positive.
“They’re taking the wrapper off the big letters now, and I think they took the small wrappers off yesterday of the smaller signange. And I was informed by one of the guys that’s working here that people were driving by throwing eggs. And you can still see some residue on the wall from that.”
Tucker says the new sign is drawing plenty of attention, with several dozen people stopping to take pictures so far.
But he says apart from the apparent egging incident, people have behaved themselves.
“Otherwise it’s been pretty quiet for the most part. During construction there was a lot more activity, there was a lot of Trump supporters guys wearing Trump T-shirts, taking pictures, thumbs up, doing selfies… you know, stuff like that, they were pretty excited.”
Following Trump’s surprise election in November, several large protests also erupted outside the tower.
The facility is slated to open later this month.
