It’s good news for commuters who rely on the Alex Fraser Bridge – for now.
On the heels of the province announcing the planned expansion of the bridge with a counterflow lane to cut down rush hour time, independent MLA of Delta South Vicki Huntington says it’s a “$70 million piecemeal.”
She says the Minister of Transportation Todd Stone should be focusing on a regional tolling review instead.
“Like he promised the Surrey Board of Trade over three years ago, this is nothing more than a temporary solution to a systemic regional congestion crisis.”
And once the traffic begins to divert from the new tolled Massey Bridge.
“They expect, in their own studies, 33,000 cars a day to divert to the Alex Fraser, which is untold.”
She says the ministry is just preparing for the inevitable gridlock expected on the Alex Fraser once the Massey Bridge is up and running.
Huntington calls is “blacktop politics at its best.”
