Friends of the family who lost “Baby Mac” in East Vancouver Wednesday have started a crowdfunding campaign to pay for a funeral and support the family as they grieve.
As of Thursday evening, it raised more than $23,000 in less than four hours.
Vancouver Police were called to the scene at 4 p.m. that afternoon.
Sources tell CKNW the child choked from a cord around his neck.
Police say the death does not appear to be suspicious.
The page and tribute, written by “loving Family and friends,” says the almost one-and-a-half-year-old child, Macallan, died after an unfortunate accident while at daycare.
“Mac was incredibly empathetic for a boy who wasn’t even two-years-old yet. If you stubbed your toe or bumped your head he would want to make sure you were okay. He loved his dolly too, he would often feed her copying his mom. He changed each and every one of our lives the moment he came into this world.”
It goes on to say the father’s job is 100 per cent commission, and want to help support the family financially so they can grieve as long as they can.
Police have not confirmed if the home the young child died at was a daycare.
