The City of Langley is taking a page out of Vancouver’s book by proposing an additional property tax.
The City is asking for a 5.92 per cent increase for single family homes, and a 3.2 per cent increase for strata properties.
“We’re talking $39 on a year for a strata property increase, $170 for a single family home,” says Director of Corporate Services Darrin Leite
Leite says the financial plan was built with certain priorities in mind.
“Things like public safety, homelessness, maintenance of parks, boulevards and trails, infrastructure renewal and recreational opportunities.”
He says he doesn’t believe the potential extra tax is enough to force Langley residents to leave because the city’s housing market is lower than average compared to municipalities Metro Vancouver.
The public is invited to a council meeting on February 6 to ask questions about the proposed tax.
