City Councillors in Richmond are planning to meet and discuss solutions to the ongoing problem with “mega-homes” being built on farm land.
They’re concerned with the houses, some of which are up to 40,000 square feet in size.
One report published by the city suggests adopting bylaw changes to regulations on the large luxury homes.
Those changes would limit home sizes to 5,400 square feet.
Councillor Linda McPhail says the current size of homes is concerning.
“We have the one that came forward in July, 41,000 square foot home with 21 bedrooms. You know that doesn’t sound like any home that I’ve heard of.”
The City says it has to make a change and protect the farmland before it’s all lost.
