Did you know Monday January 16 is called “Blue Monday?”
Sunwing Travel Expert Rachel Goldrick joined CKNW Weekend host Tim Dickert on Saturday to explain why the third Monday of the year is considered one of the most depressing days of the year.
According to a 2005 survey, it’s the day people report having the lowest levels of happiness and positive outlook.
Goldrick says some factors are lack of sunlight, the excitement of the holidays being over, post holiday bills and already failing new year resolutions.
She says in a survey conducted by travel company Sunwing, it’s having something to look forward to that lifts spirits.
“… and interestingly once people had booked a vacation, over 70% of the people that we talked to, actually no higher than that, I think it was near 90%, said that just the fact that knowing a vacation was coming up brought them joy.”
Goldrick says they call it the Holiday Halo effect.
