If you’re hoping to lace up your skates and hit Trout Lake, this may be your final weekend.
Vancouver Park Board Chair Michael Wiebe says the ice is safe enough for today and is expected to stay that way tomorrow.
“The ice is at 9″ (23 cm) at certain places, which is much thicker than the 5″ (12-12cm) needed, so I mean if it does rain, we will have to look at that but at the moment it’s looking really good.”
Wiebe says safety is a priority so the ice will continuously be monitored by rangers and ice patrol.
“It is really thick out there right now, it’s just beautiful skating conditions.”
He says every morning parks staff will be testing the ice and announcing at noon if Trout Lake will be open for skating.
Meteorologists are forecasting temperatures to rise as high as 10 degrees with rain in the coming week.
