As we crank up the heat, BC Hydro is seeing a spike in power consumption across the province.
Peak demand between 5 and 6 p.m. last night was about 9,600 megawatts.
The highest peak on record was during the massive windstorms of November 2006, just over 10,000 megawatts, so we’re close.
“We’re getting quite high and we actually expect it will go higher later this week,” says Mora Scott with BC Hydro.

She says with more snow forecast, they’ll keep a close eye on the forecast, and get crews in place before the white stuff hits.
“And that’s typically what we do, with any storm. We will pre-deploy crews if we can tell if certain areas are going to get hit harder than others.”
More snow could hit Friday into Saturday.
