The first baby born in B.C. this year was little Montgomery Harlos, who arrived exactly at midnight.
First time parents Dana and Peter Harlos proudly welcomed the first baby born in 2017 at BC’s Women’s Hospital.
Montgomery Harlos, weighing in at 8lbs 14oz, arrived at the stroke of midnight after a 28 hour labour.
Mom Dana says she is thrilled with his arrival.
“We knew there was always going to be a possibility, the actual due date was December 30th. Everyone said, ‘oh maybe it’s going to be a Christmas baby, maybe it’s going to be a New Year’s baby and then we got called in on the 30th to come in.”
“It’s just overcome with emotion really. For me, carrying a child for nine months and then all of a sudden in 45 minutes of hard pushing, there he is, and now you’ve got a human that’s depending on you. It’s pretty overwhelming.”
Dana says they chose the name Montgomery because it was unique.
