It’s going to be a busy day on the roads ahead of New Years eve celebrations, so ICBC is asking drivers to ‘take it slow.’
Every year around New Years the Lower Mainland sees more than 300 crashes between 6PM and midnight on December 31st.
Sam Corea with ICBC says an average of 100 people get hurt each year.
“One of the key factors in some of these crashes is ‘are people driving to quickly?’ So when you do have snowy conditions, slushy conditions, icy conditions slow down. The posted speed limits are for the ideal conditions only and we have certainly seen less than ideal conditions on the Lower Mainland this month.”
He says people should give themselves extra time to arrive to their destination and should plan for a safe ride home.
