For the second year in a row, downtown Vancouver will play host to a massive public New Year’s celebration.
Organizers say it will be bigger than ever.
Organizer Charles Gauthier says the addition of Canada’s 150th birthday, along with a bigger site and more performers should draw crowds.
New Year’s Eve Vancouver takes place along Canada Place Way from Howe Street to Thurlow Street at Burrard Landing.
“We had 80 thousand last year, we were only expecting 25,000, so if anything we typically underestimate our numbers. So we’re certainly hoping at the very least we get the 80,000 but because of the programing that we have and the much larger foot print there’s just so much more to do.”
The event will feature a booze-free family zone, dozens of food trucks, and both an early and late fireworks show.
There will also be an increased number of reserved viewing zones for people to enjoy the pyrotechnics.
The Sheepdogs, Yukon Blonde, Wintersleep, and The New Pornographers are some of the entertainers lined up for the midnight countdown.
A ticketed celebration, ‘True North’, will also be taking place in the convention center’s west ballrooms.
The party kicks off at 6 pm at Canada Place.
