A year after a cheetah was spotted prowling on the side of an East Kootenay highway, two people have been charged under animal control regulations.
It was last December when the decidedly un-British Columbian cat was spotted roaming on the side of a snow-covered Highway 3-A near Crawford Bay.

The sighting prompted an alert – with school kids kept inside while the RCMP hunted for the speedy feline.
Now, the cat’s alleged owners are facing charges linked to the incident.
Earl Pfeifer and Carol Plato have been charged with possessing an alien species without a permit under the Controlled Alien Species Regulation.
People may legally keep an exotic animal such as a cheetah if they have a permit.
No word on whether the Cheetah ever turned up.
