A happy ending to a boating mishap at the mouth of the Pitt River.
Coquitlam RCMP Corporal Mike McLaughlin says a call for help came in last night at ten after a boat started to take on water and one person fell overboard.
“At about 10 p.m. we got a call there was a boat on the water round about Pitt Lake area that was taking on water so the RCMP and the fire department came and we made sure two people on the boat got off safely.”
One of the boaters fell into the water and was injured trying to fix an issue with the boat, he says.
McLaughlin warns other boaters about going out during winter season.
“One of the things to note from this file is particularly with the time of year and temperature. It’s extra dangerous out there on the water. Make sure you go out there with a charged cell phone, make sure you know your boat and it’s in good repair.”
He says a lot can go wrong on the water if you’re not prepared.
