BC Ferries is looking at making some big changes in their protocol.
They’re expected to bring in new rules next month that would ban passengers from staying on bottom decks while the ferry is moving.
The proposed ban would apply to the fully-enclosed lower decks which includes the busy Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay routes.
BC Ferries said the change is being made to comply with Transport Canada regulations aimed at curbing passenger access to closed car decks.
The ferry operator is also currently reviewing its smoking policy, working toward making its vessels completely smoke-free in the future. Currently, smoking is allowed in designated areas on some outside decks.
