A tragic end to the search for a missing Kayaker on Vancouver Island.
Global News reports search crews have recovered the man’s body near Union Bay, just south of Comox.
The search was launched after a planned trip to Denman Island by a pair of kayakers went badly wrong when their boats capsized early this morning.
“Two kayakers were reported overturned in Bains Sound, after departing Union Bay. One kayaker self-rescued onto the shoreline near Union Bay,” said Dylan Carter with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria.
He was able to call for help, launching a massive search operation.
“Multiple Canadian Coast Guard vessels were tasked, along with a Canadian Forces cormorant search and rescue helicopter to conduct a search of the area,” he said.
However, when that search failed to turn up the other kayaker, the case was turned over to Mounties.
Global reports the survivor of the incident was wearing a lifejacket, but the other man was not.
