A volunteer who sends medical supplies from Vancouver to Syria is renewing calls for donors to come forward with unused medical equipment.
Over the past four years, Not Just Tourist volunteer Riam El-Safadi has filled eleven shipping containers full of supplies and has sent them to war-torn Syria.
El-Safadi says the operation requires a lot of team effort.
“We are still collecting medical supplies, crutches, wheelchairs, walkers, canes. Any beloved person who passed away, and you still have some of the stuff, you can take them and send them for a good cause in Syria,” he says.
El-Safadi says the gear will be used by doctors on the ground who continue to brave the war.
“We have a network of medical professionals inside Syria who chose to stay in Syria and they are providing the necessary treatment to fill the gaps because over 70% of the hospitals are destroyed in certain areas,” he says.
Anyone with medical equipment they’d like to donate can contact Canadian Relief for Syria Here.
