Transit Police will carry Naloxone kits starting Wednesday, Dec. 21 in a bid to tackle the deadly opioid crisis.
110 officers began training in administering Naloxone this week.
Right now, the force have 40 kits, and have asked for 175 more.
Transit Police spokesperson, Anne Drennan, says officers will wear the kits, saving crucial time when it comes to helping overdose victims.
“We deal perhaps even more than some municipal police departments with persons who are addicted to drugs or under the influence of drugs all the time. Our officers will be deployed with the kits next Wednesday morning. That will be our first deployment.”
Drennan says Transit Police responded to three overdose incidents near SkyTrain stations in the past few weeks, and that passengers who see anyone in trouble should seek help from Transit Police.
