The fire at a condo complex in Langley Sunday morning left one man dealing with losing everything he owned.
Tom Wieler, a man with cerebral palsy, escaped with nothing more than what he was wearing. Wieler realized he had to get out of the residence fast, leaving behind not just household goods and clothes, but also his music and sports memorabilia collection.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by Wieler’s family to help him out.
He remains grateful for the outpour of support from his family, and especially his girlfriend.
“She means to me so much, I don’t know why I was so lucky to meet her but I’m thanking my lucky stars about that, that’s for sure.”
Wieler had been living in the apartment for just 10 days before the fire broke, and was planning on insuring his belongings the day of the blaze.
In the less than 24 hours, the fundraiser has surpassed its $5,000-dollar goal.
